Behold, these so-called modern means of information dissemination operate much like the media in Africa between the 1960s and the early 1990s. The population explosion and the high rate of social media adoption bring back memories of the prosperity in Africa. The direction taken by Meta and X is reminiscent of the state-owned and controlled media in Africa before the 1990s, when the end of the Cold War led to a surge in independent media on the continent. It’s truly fascinating to live in such ‘interesting’ times.
