Since 2018 when Stephen K. Bannon, the former Trump administration strategist, bragged about his strategy to overwhelm Democrats and media opponents by ‘flooding the zone’ with initiatives, this strategy has been in place. Now, the flood has become bigger, wider, and more brutally efficient. As President Trump enters his second term, he is pushing his agenda at lightning speed as part of an intentional plan to unbalance his opponents and weaken their response. Firing inspectors general, granting clemency to January 6 defendants, investigating perceived enemies, a federal hiring freeze, moving to end birthright citizenship, an immigration crackdown, terminating diversity, equity, and inclusion programs, and revoking security clearances—all these actions seem like a meticulously planned ‘house cleaning’.
