President Trump appeared to embody his ‘Teflon Don’ persona during the first week of his second term, with the wealthiest men in the world surrounding him during his inauguration and plenty of Democrats rolling over to grant him legislative victories on immigration, his signature issue. He even tamed Republican senators by confirming Pete Hegseth as Secretary of Defense, despite numerous scandals and questions about his qualifications. All of this stood in stark contrast to his first term, when he lost the popular vote and many establishment Republicans in both the House and Senate were anxious about his administration, as the country wondered if his victory was nothing more than a political fluke. But now, he is the establishment.
