The president seems to have taken on the role of a state governor, crossing state lines to interfere in affairs and even confront local officials in the process, forcing his hand in managing the state’s complex water systems. For advocates of federalism, this might be a disillusioning moment. And so, it appears that the Republican Party, once a champion of decentralization, has subtly shifted its allegiance, from a proponent of power devolution to an advocate for centralized authority. Perhaps, under the influence of Trump, the Republican Party is now ready to pay homage to the supreme power of federalism.
