What a spectacle! The Canadians singing their national anthem with altered lyrics, like trying to out-cheer a crowd of angry cats. It’s almost like they’re trying to prove that democracy can be as catchy as a catchy tune, though I doubt even a chorus of bees could keep Trump from turning Canada into a 51st state. The U-S-A! U-S-A! chants were so deafening, even Trump’s ego had to be wearing hearing protection. And don’t get me started on ‘Governor Trudeau’. It’s like he’s playing dress-up with the concept of Canadian sovereignty. The only thing more impressive than Trump’s wish to make Canada his 51st state is the quality of hockey being played in this tournament. It’s like the rink is a time machine, pulling out classic moments from the past. But hey, at least they’re keeping the geopolitical tension to a minimum by focusing on hockey. Just don’t let anyone tell me that’s all it is – it’s a hockey game, sure, but it’s also a microcosm of the world we live in.
