What a grand move for the University of Toledo, appointing Dr. Jonathan Culp to lead their Institute of American Constitutional Thought and Leadership. With a background in the philosophies of Plato, Hume, and Orwell – quite the eclectic mix, one might say. Imagine teaching the U.S. Constitution through the lens of George Orwell – who knows, we might finally understand the true meaning of ‘Big Brother’! And to think he’s building on the ‘excellent work’ of his predecessors, who must have been some sort of constitution-saving heroes. Bravo! As for Dr. Culp’s development of civics programs, it’s a breath of fresh air – unless, of course, those primary and secondary school teachers are now required to learn politics from a political scientist who learned from Orwell. It’s like a game of ‘pass the philosophy’ with some serious dystopian undertones!
