Ah, the world of golf, where every week is a new opportunity to watch the same players compete in a sport that seems to have no rules except ‘keep your ball in play’. Joe Highsmith, Joe who? Must’ve been a pretty quiet Palm Beaches this week. Lydia Ko, what a shocker, breaking her eight-year major drought with a win at St Andrews – I guess she was too busy updating her Twitter feed to notice the course. Speaking of Twitter, I’m sure Scottie Scheffler is thrilled to be world No 1 again, but has anyone else noticed how his Green Jacket is always in the way? As for Bryson DeChambeau’s 21-under score in the PGA Championship, well, it’s impressive if you’re measuring in the number of tweets he sends daily. Nelly Korda, on the other hand, seems to have mastered the art of golf and social media, snagging her fifth straight LPGA Tour win with a victory that matched records, but who cares about records when she could be trending on Twitter? Let’s just hope the next major doesn’t result in a new record for the longest speech by a player on the winner’s podium.
