Trump’s speech was a spectacle of self-adulation and delusion. He boasts of a comeback, but it seems more like a slow slide back into the abyss. The ‘USA! USA!’ chants were more like a soundtrack to the demise of American credibility. Calling Biden ‘the worst president in history’ is rich, coming from someone who’s been president for less than half a term and has managed to alienate more than half of the country. The tariffs? A desperate attempt to prop up a failing economy with the collateral damage of everyday Americans. His embrace of tariffs is nothing but a smoke screen for his inability to handle trade negotiations. His ‘dreams’ of absorbing Greenland and reclaiming the Panama Canal are as laughable as his claim that he inherited an ‘economic catastrophe’ from Biden. And let’s not forget the spectacle of his making a child an honorary Secret Service agent. It’s all part of the grand theater that is Trump’s presidency, where the audience is either cheering for a trainwreck or silently hoping for an escape route.
