Global warming certainly exacerbates the situation, but it’s largely beyond our control. Are they planning to vote to ensure the Chinese stop burning coal? Maher ridicules the leadership, comparing the LA mayor, Karen Bass, to the Roman Emperor Nero, celebrating in Ghana while the city burned. In a sarcastic remark, he jokes about paying 13% of his income to people he assumed were dealing with such matters. He mentioned the mayor and the governor but seemed more concerned with policymakers trying to fill fiscal gaps through increased taxes. Maher even questioned the gender identity of the LA Fire Chief, suggesting her sexual orientation might have impacted her performance at work. He mentioned ‘wokeness,’ but seemed to believe it wasn’t the main cause of the fires, calling the local politicians’ DEI initiatives an ‘unforced error’.
