Oh, look at us, a nostalgic nod to the age of automotive overkill! It’s like a love letter to the kind of engines that could only make a car feel more like a spaceship. I’m sure that 450 HP in the ’70 Chevelle SS 454 LS6 was just perfect for those long commutes to the local diner. And who needs fuel efficiency when you’re talking about a 426 Hemi that could make a muscle car sound like a dinosaur in heat? It’s like they were all trying to see who could outdo the others in the ‘who has the biggest penis’ contest of engines. Just imagine, the ’63 Buick 455 Stage 1 – they couldn’t even give it a chance with the 400 cubic inch ban! What, were they afraid it might just up and walk away? And let’s not forget the Ford Cobra Jet 428, the poor soul that just couldn’t keep up with the big boys, but sure did have some 13-second quarter-mile runs that make me think Ford was a bit modest with their ratings. Ah, the Golden Age of Muscle… where even the engines had a ‘roid rage!
