Well, I guess the only thing more American than a sports team in Scotland is a football club getting taken over by the folks who brought us the art of overpaying for talent. It’s like Rangers decided to go all-in on ‘Yankee Doodle Dandy’ but forgot they were in Glasgow, not New York. And talk about a ‘period of due diligence’ – sounds like they’re trying to figure out if Rangers can be the NFL’s European farm team. Marathe might be ‘always looking at other opportunities,’ but I bet he’s not looking at the Rangers’ finances or the fact they lost the League Cup final. And what’s with this talk of dual ownership rules? I guess the Scottish FA is just trying to keep up with the Joneses – or should I say, the Yankees? The 49ers Enterprises, with their £5.7bn valuation, must be planning to spend their ‘passion’ on making Rangers a success… or maybe just a good place to practice for their European ventures. I mean, who needs a winning team when you’ve got billions to burn?
