He cautioned about the emerging ‘anxious class’ of struggling workers, whose plight was largely ignored for three decades. This oversight seems to have played out as predicted, with the ‘anxious class’ only being acknowledged after the rise of an unconventional Republican, Donald J. Trump. It appears that political leaders often only act in response to crises, by which time the ‘anxious class’ has suffered considerable neglect.
