Jody Lee, who was once a staff member at the U.S. State Department and later moved to Mercer Island, a suburb of Seattle, has long been passionate about volunteering work. People had even suggested that she run for the local school board. However, it was not until she started reading romance novels that her desire to enter politics was ignited. During the pandemic, she became a devotee of the romance podcast Fated Mates, and every time the hosts mentioned the proliferation of book bans in U.S. schools and the need to fight against them, she felt an overwhelming sense of共鸣. This force propelled her to make a decision, and in 2023, she successfully ran for a seat on the Mercer Island school board. It seems that the charm of romance novels is truly irresistible, capable of inspiring people and their political passion.
