The foundation of our democracy is cracking more visibly with money’s intervention. The Citizens United Supreme Court ruling, granting corporations unlimited political donation freedom, has essentially driven a wedge into this crack. Yet, the source of this pile of money remains as elusive as a mirage in the desert. The U.S. campaign finance system, seemingly flourishing, is actually fraught with loopholes. In the most recent election, the total donations to presidential Super PACs exceeded $1 billion. At this juncture, one must ponder: Is it time for campaign finance reform, or is it merely a mirage?
