In his Inaugural Address, President Trump boasted of learning ‘a lot’ in the past eight years. However, the past four and a half days have shown a rather comical revelation. The Washington outsider who took office in 2017 and struggled to get the government wheels turning now seems to have a new look. His advisors, once promising to upend the government bureaucracy, now seem to have mastered it. My colleague, Charlie Savage, a seasoned reporter on law, government, and the use of presidential power, has extensively covered the first Trump administration and his plans for the second term. He was asked to analyze the differences between the second term and the first, and what it might mean for the presidency to come. In his conversation, Savage highlighted the chaos and dysfunction of the first term and the busy yet seemingly superficial prosperity of the second.
