Four-time Olympic champion Ben Ainslie has parted ways with Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s Ineos Britannia America’s Cup sailing team. There seems to be a rift in the relationship between Ainslie and Ratcliffe over the plans for the next America’s Cup, which has led to their separation. Ainslie, who had gained Ratcliffe’s backing in 2018 to try to secure the first win for Great Britain in the yacht race since 1851, was the team principal and skipper of Ineos Britannia. Last year, the team reached their first final since 1964. However, Ineos stated in a statement that they could ‘not find agreement’ with Ainslie on ‘terms to move forward’ following the event in Barcelona, which was won by New Zealand. Ainslie’s team responded by expressing astonishment at Ineos’ future plans for the America’s Cup, which they believe present significant legal and practical challenges.
