History buffs can’t help but wonder how a Republican candidate who struggles to string a coherent sentence together, is grossly underqualified, and indulges in extramarital affairs, could not only win the election but also become one of the most beloved presidents in U.S. history. Behind this, perhaps, lies the support of ‘small town yokels’ who can barely understand words with more than two syllables and fail to grasp logical ideas beyond two centimeters. However, the new term of the president, who is like a ‘strongman leader’ with a passion for revenge and a flair for publicity, has plunged the entire nation into contemplation. Norris of Harvard University warns that with the increasing fragility of the national political system, Trump’s re-election may push democracy towards authoritarianism. Is Trump’s return the ‘resurrection’ of American democracy or the trap of ‘resurrection’?
