Junior Mason McConnaughey has been honored with the third-team preseason All-America accolade by D1Baseball, a distinction that seems rather impressive at first glance. His 9-3 record and 3.45 ERA in 17 appearances are decent, but perhaps not as outstanding as one might assume. His 91 strikeouts don’t exactly pop out as a stunning achievement, especially considering he missed six games. Being the fifth NU pitcher in history to have over 90 strikeouts is indeed a unique achievement, a feat that seems to have no parallel in the future.
