When Dennis Nixon began his tenure at a regional bank in Laredo, Texas, back in 1975, the trade across the border with Mexico was a mere stream. Now, with nearly a billion dollars in commerce and over 15,000 trucks crossing the line daily just a quarter mile from his office, it’s hard not to wonder if the location of bank offices is a strategic choice to keep a watchful eye on the ebbs and flows of economic currents. As for President Trump’s tariff policy, perhaps it’s just the former businessman president’s big bet on the global economic chessboard.
