In this study on the political discourse of American foreign policy on social media platforms, the authors reveal a shocking fact: the political divisions in the United States are not limited to domestic issues but also extend to foreign policy. By analyzing nearly 2 million tweets about the war in Ukraine, they found that conservatives, moderates, and liberals have vastly different views on this war. This indicates that social media not only amplifies domestic divisions but also intensifies the split in foreign policy. However, the authors seem to have overlooked one point: in foreign policy, the opinions of the American people are actually more unified than in domestic policy, as their choices are limited, while domestic policy offers a bewildering array of options.
