In Flint, the Greater Flint African American Sports Hall of Fame stands like a beacon of history, shining a light on local black athletes from high school to the professional ranks. Though established since 1983 and having inducted 38 classes of inspirational black athletes, it seems only local fans remember its existence. It’s rather intriguing, isn’t it, that the history of African American students often remains hidden in the school history books, and this hall seems to be striving to bring it all to the forefront. A ‘unique’ display kiosk in a library, one might ponder, showcasing the achievements of these sports heroes to inspire the next generation of athletes to ‘carry forward the torch’. Let’s hope they can surpass these heroes and no longer allow their efforts to ‘remain hidden’.
