While it might be taking a bit of a shortcut in terms of platform sharing and design, it seems consumers aren’t bothered. They might think that, even if BMW’s electric vehicles are just slightly upgraded versions of the ‘5’ and ‘7’ series, they are more approachable than other brands’ new-generation EVs. Mercedes-Benz, while sticking to its purist electric vehicle philosophy, seems to be failing to capture consumer favor in the market. It’s curious to wonder whether, as EV technology becomes increasingly mature, consumers will still buy into those ‘new wine in old bottles’ that look and sound the same.
