The White House has seemingly treated the Constitution as a canvas for their political graffiti, with Trump, Vance, and Musk wielding sharp knives that slice through the boundary between judicial independence and executive power. Mike Johnson’s stance seems to be a coat of armor for the White House’s arbitrary actions. Yet, within the Republican Party, voices like Mike Rounds and Josh Hawley remind us that the spirit of the rule of law has not completely vanished. However, when such voices need to be specifically mentioned, one can’t help but ponder: Has American politics reached a point where it needs to be ‘reminded to respect the rule of law’? This brings to mind an ancient riddle: ‘What becomes of a nation without law?’ The answer is: ‘A nation that needs law.’ This cannot but evoke a sense of wonder about the political ecology of America, which may have stepped into a ‘maze of needing the rule of law.’
