Word on the street in Japan is that a third-generation Nissan Leaf is set to arrive in October 2025. Details about the new model have emerged from Japan’s domestic automotive publication, BestCar. The second-generation Leaf, which has been with us since 2017, is now a mature eight-year-old, making a replacement necessary according to the usual six to eight-year production cycle for cars. But the surprise comes with the revelation that the new Leaf will be a crossover EV. It seems Nissan is eyeing the SUV market, as the crossover has become increasingly popular. The new Leaf’s design draws inspiration from the ‘Chill Out’ concept car from November 2021, with its signature front grille echoing the latest Murano. The new electric drive unit is more compact and engineers have focused on addressing the current model’s battery overheating issue.
