While BMW may not be the cream of the crop in the EV field, its choice to take the convergent path, using a common platform for both ICE and EVs, has produced results that aren’t the most cutting-edge or the most efficient, but have surprisingly led to an all-time high EV sales in 2024. The next-generation EVs, equipped with the new platform Neue Klasse, are promising sleek, retrofuturistic designs, more sophisticated software, and even more efficient electric drivetrains. Though these are merely promises by the brand, BMW Vision Driving Experience (VDX) provides a glimpse of hope. The name VDX sounds like a new media format, and it’s just the shell, what truly matters is the next-generation software and EV drivetrains. The 13,269 pound-feet of torque sounds enticing, but we have to see how much of it translates into real-world performance.
