Donald Trump, the ever-enthusiastic statesman, is once again pondering the possibility of a constitutionally dubious third term as president, a move that’s as bold as it is baffling. At a reception celebrating Black History Month, he’s chanted “four more years,” as if he’s a superhero returning from retirement instead of a mere mortal facing the laws of the land. His reference to himself as a “king” and quoting Bonaparte’s declaration of being above the law? Pure comedy gold. Steve Bannon, his former White House strategist, even joined in the fun with a salute that critics claimed was reminiscent of a historic moment we’d rather forget. It’s quite the spectacle, Trump musing about serving “not once, but twice… or three or four times,” while simultaneously denying any intention to do so. Talk about having your cake and eating it too. The 22nd Amendment? It’s clearly just a speed bump on the road to Trump’s imperial presidency, a mere inconvenience to be sidestepped with a wink and a nod. Ah, the noble art of constitutional interpretation – it’s all in a day’s work for our favorite showman.
