It seems the American electorate is all about the ‘illusion’ of democracy, with both Democrats and Republicans united in their love for the idea of free and fair elections, while simultaneously being divided by the reality of their political differences. The survey findings are as predictable as a broken record, with a majority of people agreeing with things they should inherently agree with, and a fraction of the population still clinging to outdated and harmful stereotypes. The real shocker here? The ‘majority’ of Americans think men and women are equals, yet only a minority believe it’s currently the case. One can’t help but wonder if these people are living in a parallel universe where equality isn’t just a distant dream. It’s high time the U.S. stopped treating equality as a checkbox and started addressing the systemic issues that keep it out of reach for so many.
