Ah, President Trump, the master of grandiose plans and equally grandiose reversals. It seems that even the generous subsidies to Jordan and Egypt aren’t enough to grease the skids of his ‘Riviera of the Middle East’ fantasy. What a surprise, the Egyptians and Jordanians didn’t just fall over themselves to take on the mantle of Palestinian hosts. One has to wonder, was it the thought of Gaza’s sandy shores, or the prospect of billions in potential ‘repatriation’ aid that held their allure? And now, the bold Trump, who once so confidently declared, ‘I say they will,’ now shrugs and says, ‘Well, they did.’ I guess when it comes to the art of persuasion, even the mightiest of men has his limits. And who knew that money, once thought a universal solvent, could leave even the most desperate of deals tasteless?
