Oh, the great Dick Button, where do we start? A two-time Olympic gold medalist, yes, but his real legacy lies in his ice skating commentary that must have made the sport more tolerable for millions. What a ‘pioneering style’! We’re talking about a man who made the double axel look as exciting as watching paint dry. His ‘award-winning television commentary’… oh, please. I’m sure it was a breath of fresh air for those who preferred their skating to be as technical as a sleepwalking symphony. ‘The godfather of the sport’? More like the ‘pioneer of snoozing through skating competitions’. But, I suppose the Ice Capades was a better fit for him. It’s a shame he had to leave us, but maybe it’s for the best; the world might have just been too boring for his legendary ‘wit and brutal honesty’.
