Ah, the ‘gold card’—an opulent invitation to citizenship for those with the cash to spare, a sort of VIP express lane to the American dream, except the ticket price is about as much as a decent mansion. It’s refreshing to see the President embrace the spirit of the open market with such vigor, selling visas as if they were shares in a hot IPO. ‘Global citizens,’ indeed, I can just picture them sipping lattes at high-end cafes, discussing the finer points of tax evasion with the Trump administration’s keenest observers. And let’s not forget the added bonus of ‘discernment’ in vetting applicants; who wouldn’t want a stamp of approval from a government that seems to reserve its closest scrutiny for ‘very high-level people,’ especially those who are ‘not as wealthy as they used to be.’ It’s a masterstroke, really, turning the citizenship process into a profit center, all while maintaining the appearance of a ‘blingy new program.’
