What a spectacle of political theater! The House has decided to pass a budget that’s as clever as a magpie with a budget, full of shiny tax cuts that will gleam just as brightly in the wallets of the already wealthy. Talk about a ‘bitter fight’ within the GOP – it’s more like a food fight in a fancy banquet hall. They’ve tried to calm the conservative rebellion with a game of ‘hot potato,’ only to find themselves caught in the middle of a spending freeze-thaw cycle. Speaker Mike Johnson, with his ‘four-quarter game’ analogy, must be channeling his inner coach in a ‘Let’s Play House’ scenario. It’s a ‘crucial first step’ alright, towards what seems like a fiscal Titanic, with Republicans cheerleading from the lifeboats of fiscal recklessness.
