What a shocker, the Wrangler 4xe is the best-selling PHEV in the U.S., and now they’re getting a ‘new’ transmission? Must be some real Jeep magic at work there. I guess they’re not quite ready to off-road the competition, so they’re just off-roading their own tech, eh? And the new transmission, oh boy, talk about efficiency – it’s like they’re trying to make up for the lack of range with complexity. It’s a real ‘efficiency’ boost when you have to pour in 1.8 liters of fluid instead of 3.1. Range anxiety? Now they’re aiming for speed anxiety with a ‘near 75 mph’ claim. And don’t even get me started on that ‘appreciably more electric range’ – is that 31 miles a joke or are they trying to make it sound more impressive than it is? PHEVs, my foot, they’re just not ready for prime time, are they?
